BRET MICHAELS Feared Addiction After Health ScareJuly 22, 2010 / 503 reads / 1 comments
Bret Michaels feared he would sink into prescription drug addiction following his recent brain haemorrhage, because he was pumped full of painkillers as he recovered from the health scare.
The Poison star has been a hospital regular over the last few months - as well as the haemorrhage he also suffered a stroke, underwent an emergency appendectomy and was diagnosed with a hole in his heart.
Michaels reveals he was given a cocktail of drugs to help him through the ordeal, but he was scared the medication he was being given would lead to an addiction.
He tells CNN.com, "Every two seconds they're (the doctors) like, 'Can I just...' They give you Dilaudid (a morphine derivative), which is like, really good. I understand why people get addicted to stuff. I'm just being brutally honest here.
"Then they give you Soma (a muscle relaxant) and Oxycodone (an opiate-based painkiller) and all this stuff to get better, and then my brain started thinking, 'Man, I'm going to end of up having an addiction problem when this is all done!'
"There's no way to describe the pain. It feels like you have the most intense migraine headache all the time. It starts to get very depressing."
